Stan Weessies is a Dutch painter based in Berlin whose work explores the eerie and obscure in imagined places and spaces. His early paintings were aggressive and instinctive — created on unstretched fabric through a chaotic mix of brushwork, stains, scraping, and unconventional materials, often resembling a physical struggle. Fascinated by the radical openness of the “holy fool” and their longing for the divine, his recent work has become more deliberate, constructing psychological spaces that feel strange, intimate, and unsettled — yet evoke a longing to inhabit them.
