STAN WEESSIES

Stan Weessies (NL) is a Berlin-based painter who graduated from the Maastricht Institute of Arts in 2022. His painting practice explores the construction of environments that exist between physical and psychological space. He creates layered compositions that suggest depth, movement, and a sense of tension rather than fixed representation. Through an intuitive process of building and disrupting space, his paintings remain open, shifting, and resistant to a single interpretation.
His work is driven by an interest in shifting space and continuous transformation. Instead of depicting specific locations, Weessies builds environments that feel both familiar and uncertain, where space is constantly changing and movement seems to continue beneath the surface. His compositions often depict landscapes without fully becoming them, allowing atmosphere, rhythm, and spatial ambiguity to take precedence over recognisable forms.
His paintings sit somewhere between landscape, memory, and imagination, where spatial suggestion, instability, and change become central.
