Stan Weessies
Stan Weessies is a Dutch visual artist based in Berlin. He graduated in Fine Arts from the Maastricht Institute of Arts in 2022. His painting practice explores the intersection of the eerie, the absurd, and the banal, often through dystopian and abstract landscapes.

A sense of instability and intensity shaped his early process. Working on large, unstretched pieces of fabric laid on the floor, he built up layers without a fixed composition. The approach was physical and intuitive, combining brushwork, stains, scraping, and unconventional materials. Painting became a direct, sometimes forceful act - balancing control and chance.
In recent years, his method has become more deliberate. He now focuses on building spatial tension within the work. The paintings function more as environments than images - surfaces that suggest depth, distance, and movement.

This development has been shaped through recent exhibitions in the Netherlands and Germany, leading to a slower, more focused way of working, with greater attention to how material, scale, and composition shape the viewer’s sense of space.
